Desperate Marilyn Monroe Poses Naked in Never Before Seen First Photoshoot

Marilyn was just 22 and desperate for money when she agreed to take part in the photoshoot, which features in a new book for the first time

Marilyn Monroe was an icon of her age - a blonde bombshell with the world at her feet.

An actress, singer and model she was a superstar in the 1950s and the world was devastated when she was found dead in 1962.

Her films, like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Monkey Business, made millions and she was one of the most photographed women on the planet..

But Marilyn, who was born Norma Jean, had a troubled childhood spending time in foster homes and orphanages.

She was married to her first husband by the time she was 16 and was working in a factory during World War Two when she was discovered by a photographer.

This launched her successful modelling career and then catapulted her onto the international stage.

However, her first shoot at a pin up girl could not have been more different to the glamorous images she became known for,

A new book featuring never before seen glamour shots from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, includes her first professional modelling job.

Aged just 22 and desperate to crack the big time, Marilyn poses completely naked on a red, velvet couch.

Marilyn was posing for Tom Kelly and was paid just $50 for the image, which would go on the feature in the first ever issue of Playboy three years later.

When the photo was taken, Marilyn had just been released from contracts with 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures.

She still needed to pay the bills and fell back on her old job of modelling and was persuaded to take part in the shoot by Tom Kelly, who brought his wife along to calm Marilyn's nerves.

But even though she was desperate for cash, it's clear Marilyn was ashamed by the shoot and signed her name Mona Monroe.

Marilyn herself said "nice girls did not pose in the nude".

She is believed to have told the photographer "you must never tell anyone about my posing for you in the nude, I want you to promise me that you will take the pictures so that I wouldn't be recognisable in them".

This was clearly not a promise he would keep.

Other Hollywood stars to feature in the book Calendar Girls, Sex Goddesses and Pin-up Queens of the 40s, 50s and 60s include English actress Diana Dors, who is pictured posing in lacy lingerie.

Jayne Mansfield, who was dubbed the 'next Marilyn', also has photos included in the book.
