A REAL Welsh Dragon! Fossil of Meat-eating Dinosaur that Terrorised Wales 200 Million Years Ago Unearthed
![]() Described as the 'find of a life-time' the bones (pictured top right) of the 100 million-year-old theropod dinosaur (illustrated left) were discovered by two brothers (bottom right) on Lavernock beach near Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. A cliff fall on the beach, caused by storms in the spring of 2014 revealed several loose blocks containing part of the skeleton of the dinosaur, including razor sharp teeth and claws. The fossilised skeleton, described as a cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex, is believed to be the earliest specimen of a Jurassic era dinosaur to be found in the world. And while it may not have wings or breathe fire like the country's national symbol, it is the first fossil of a meat-eating theropod dinosaur to be found in Wales.
