Mom, 24, Charged With Felony Neglect After Her Barefoot Children aged 4 and 6 are Found Eating Dirt and Dry Noodles in a CAVE Under Kansas City
A 24-year-old mother has been charged with child endangerment after her dirty, barefoot four- and six-year-old children were found living in a wooden shipping crate in an underground cave in Kansas City, Missouri. Brittany Mugrauer was detained on Friday with felony charges after police found the children while searching for a stolen car. As Jackson County detectives began searching the caves on the city's east side on Thursday, they found the children, alone, in an 8-by-10-foot crate furnished with vehicle bench seats. Brittany Mugrauer, 24, was detained on Friday after police found her children in a cave under Kansas City, Missouri, while searching for a stolen car. The children were barefoot, filthy, and had been there for days Prosecutors say the children were poorly clothed, barefoot and covered in dirt. The younger one was eating dirt and dry ramen noodles from a cup, dressed in a t-shirt and shorts. The older child was wearing nylon pants that were inches too long. According to police documents, the children 'stated that they had no toys at the cave, no other clothing, no shoes, and that there was no water or place to cook'. The documents also state: 'The six year old advised that he should be in the 1st grade but that he did not go to school.' Prosecutors have requested a $75,000 bond for Mugrauer, according to the Star, after she told police she had left the children in the caves for 'several days'. A spokesman for the Jackson County prosecutor's office said Saturday he didn't know if the woman has an attorney. This is a general view of the site above the caves, where the children were found in a shipping container
