Police say at least 10 people have been killed in a shooting near a Jewish gathering at Sydney's Bondi Beach.
One shooter was killed, while another is in custody.
Authorities say there is no longer an active threat but have urged people to avoid the area.

The gunmen behind the Bondi beach attack are a father/son duo suspected of using legally obtained firearms to commit the massacre, according to police.
Naveed Akram, 24, was arrested at the scene and taken to a Sydney hospital with critical injuries. His 50-year-old father, who the Sydney Morning Herald first reported to be Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police.
The pair allegedly killed 15 people, with dozens more injured in the shootings, which took place on Sunday during a gathering to celebrate the first night of Hanukah.
The son was known to New South Wales police and security agencies, while his father had a firearms licence with six weapons registered to him. All six firearms have been recovered, police said.
Four of these weapons, long arms believed to include a rifle and shotgun, were seized at the scene in Bondi, with other weapons also found during a police raid at a house in Campsie, in Sydney?s south-west.
Naveed Akram, who worked as a bricklayer, came under the attention of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (Asio) in October 2019, according to the prime minister, Anthony Albanese. He was examined for six months because of his alleged associations with others, with the ABC reporting claims that the counter-terror investigation involved an Islamic State cell.
Naveed Akram was examined on the basis of being associated with others and the assessment was made that there was no indication of any ongoing threat or threat of him engaging in violence, Albanese said.
In a later update, Albanese said there was no evidence that these people were part of a cell. He added Clearly, they were motivated by this extremist ideology, and further detail, of course, will be released when the police go through their work.
The NSW police commissioner, Mal Lanyon, said the two men had lived at another house in Bonnyrigg, in the citys west, which was also raided on Sunday night. He said there was nothing to indicate that either of the men involved in yesterdays attack was planning the attack, and confirmed the older man had held a gun licence for a decade.
Lanyon said police expected to bring criminal charges against the surviving alleged attacker. He would not comment on reports claiming a manifesto or black Islamic State flag were found in the car driven to the scene by the alleged attackers.

Another constable has undergone surgery in a bid to save his eye after he was shot multiple times in the face during the attack which left 15 people dead including a 10 year old girl. He also had surgery on injuries to his shoulder as well as to prevent extensive bleeding.

New details about the police case against the alleged Bondi terrorists have been released, including details of an alleged video manifesto linked to the Islamic State and the undetonated explosives including a tennis ball bomb found at the scene.
Naveed Akram, 24, faces charges of murdering 15 people and injuring dozens more in the shooting at a Hanukah celebration on 14 December. His father, Sajid Akram, 50, is the second alleged shooter, and died at the scene.
The police fact sheet outlining their allegations against Naveed reveals investigators believe three pipe bombs and a tennis ball bomb were thrown towards the crowd before the pair began shooting.
While they did not detonate, police alleged they were viable improvised explosive devices
Police allege in the court document, released Monday, that there is evidence that the pair meticulously planned this terrorist attack for many months. This allegedly included the creation of an ISIS inspired video, firearm training and the making of explosives.
The pair also allegedly undertook a reconnaissance visit to Bondi two days before the attack, where they went to the footbridge from which theyre accused of firing at those gathered at the Jewish festival, police say in the document.
A video found on the accuseds phone, recorded in October, shows Naveed and his father sitting in front of an image of the IS flag, according to the document.
Police allege that Naveed appearing with four long arm firearms appears to recite in Arabic a passage from the Quran in the video, before he and his father go on to make in English several statements about why they planned to commit the Bondi attack, including condemning the acts of Zionists
Another clip, also recorded in October, allegedly shows the father and son training with firearms in a rural setting, suspected to be located in New South Wales. The clips show them firing shotguns and moving in a tactical manner, according to the document.
Naveed and his father are accused of acting in a joint criminal enterprise, with the goal of causing a persons death and furthering an extremist political, religious and ideological cause, namely religiously motivated violent extremism aligned with Islamic State
Police allege smartphones, a long bow with 12 arrows and a homemade firearm were also located at the suspects family home in Bonnyrigg.
According to police, Naveeds mother said she believed the pair were on holidays in southern NSW.
The mother recalled that while he was away, the accused would call her each morning from a payphone ? and would discuss what he planned to do that day, police allege in the document.
Naveed is facing 15 counts of murder and 40 counts of attempted murder, among other charges. Police confirmed on Monday that he has left hospital under riot squad guard and is now in a NSW prison, police have confirmed.
