Louvre Heist Daring Theft of Napoleonic Jewels; Hunt on For Thieves After Eight Priceless Jewellery Pieces Stolen
Priceless Gems Stolen by Highly Organised Gang in Audacious Louvre Heist Could be Broken Down And Lost Forever MailOnline 21 OCT 2025 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Necklace given by Napoleon to his wife among items taken from Paris museum in highly professional daylight raid...Louvre remains closed A crisis meeting was held at the museum after Sundays seven minute raid which saw a gang plunder artefacts including an Imperial brooch containing 2,000 diamonds. The eight snatched items all date from Frances 19th century royalty and are encrusted with thousands of diamonds and other precious gemstones. A tiara, necklace and earring were taken from the Queen Marie Amelie sapphire set, alongside a brooch that belonged to Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, containing 2,438 diamonds. Last night, the worlds most visited museum remained closed as a meeting was held with attendees including interior minister Laurent Nunez and culture minister Rachida Dati, to discuss what went wrong. Security guards failed to confront the gang, while police did not react to an alarm in time. Justice minister Gerald Darmanin also conceded windows and display cabinets were too easily broken into, and there were not enough CCTV cameras in the targeted Denton Wing. We failed and presented a deplorable image of France, he said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdATUiOH1b8 |
