At least nine people were injured in New York City overnight after a car plowed into New Year's Eve revellers and police officers while evading cops after a dispute with another person.

Among the injured were nine individuals, including two New York Police officers. The incident occurred on West 34th Street and 9th Avenue around 1:40 am local time, just as crowds were leaving Times Square after the iconic crystal ball drop to ring in 2024. Reports say the car mounted the sidewalk, hitting multiple people and police officers before coming to a halt.

The driver, a 44 year old man, is now in custody and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

The chase by the police ended in a crash involving three cars - two black cars and a yellow taxi. Images from the scene show a man being stretchered away, but thankfully, no deaths have been reported.
