Liverpool Bloody Machete Attack: Many Injured
Liverpool Bloody Machete Attack: Many Injured and Woman Seen in Pool of Blood as Man Held
A Male Suspect Has Been Arrested After a Number of People Suffered Slash Wounds and Were Taken to Hospital as Police Officers Continue Enquiries at the Scene BBC 12 AUG 2022 A suspected machete attacker has been arrested by officers after a number of people suffered slash wounds in a “frightening” incident. A cordon remains in place around the scene near Anfield Merseyside Police were called to a street in Anfield, Liverpool to reports of a man shouting at people while armed with the weapon. A number of victims are believed to have been hurt, with some requiring hospital treatment although no one suffered life-threatening injuries. A male suspect, who is from the area, was detained a short time later in Stanley Park. He was later arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Police say the incident is not believed to be terror-related and the suspect is thought to have mental health issues. Police at the scene in Liverpool where the attack took place An eyewitness told the Liverpool Echo he saw a man with a "massive machete." He said: "We crossed the road and he passed us. About 20 seconds later a younger guy ran towards us with stab wounds to the arm. We then saw him [the knifeman] walk down the street until entering a house. Police say the incident was not terror related "I was shocked, you would never expect to come face-to-face with that." A police cordon is currently in place at the scene as enquiries continue. Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said: "This incident will have been frightening for those assaulted as well as those who witnessed it, and we will provide them with our full support. "I understand that the circumstances will be frightening too for the wider community in Anfield. "Thankfully, specialist officers attended swiftly, arrested a suspect and brought an end to the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. "While we do not believe anyone else was responsible, extra officers will be deployed on high visibility patrols in the Anfield area in the coming days to reassure the community." A spokesman added: "While the investigation is at a very early stage, this incident is not believed to be terror-related and the suspect is thought to have mental health issues."
