Dana White Talks Tito Ortiz Joining UFC Hall of Fame (Video)
The rocky relationship between UFC president Dana White and Tito Ortiz has been well publicized throughout the light heavyweight’s 14-year career. As “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” approaches what could be his final Octagon foray, Ortiz has expressed great interest in joining one of the UFC’s most exclusive clubs.
“I’ve accomplished a lot of things, and of course I would want to be in the Hall of Fame. I feel that I should be in the Hall of Fame,” Ortiz told 5thRound.
Unfortunately for the 36-year-old, White has been known for excluding certain superstars for relationships that have gone awry (Please see: Frank Shamrock). Despite their personal ups and downs, both have always been able to handle business at the end of the day.
Ortiz has gone 0-4-1 over his last five outings and claimed he had to beg White for one LAST shot. Given his resume – which includes nine championship fights, 5 consecutive successful title defenses and being the face of the UFC when Zuffa, LLC was just taking over – White granted him another go.
He’s got 24 pro fights under his belt, with all but one coming inside the Octagon, so giving him a FINAL opportunity wasn’t a big deal for White. However, countless fighters have come through the UFC’s doors and only eight fighters have entered the Hall.
