Red Arrow Thai Fishermen Land Massive 14-Foot Stingray

A fish longer than a storey is high was reeled out of a river in Thailand last week.

It was a freshwater, 14-foot stingray that measured eight feet wide, and is believed to be one of the biggest freshwater fish ever caught and recorded, according to the Washington Post. Its estimated weight: 600 to 800 pounds.

The fish was so massive fishermen had to take shifts during a five-hour catching period. It was released back into the Mae Klong River after samples and measurements were collected.

A catfish weighing approximately 650 pounds was caught in Thailand in 2005.

Although unconfirmed, that was considered the largest fish ever caught and recorded, the Post reported.

Last week's mammoth snag was caught on camera and will be featured on a future episode of ABC's Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin.

The freshwater stingray species living in southeast Asia is endangered, according to the Post.
