There is nothing more graceful at the Winter Olympics than the sequin-clad figure skaters gliding around an ice dome to the tune of a musical classic.
But mid-twirl it is rather more embarrassing.

Even the very best ice dancers get caught in unflattering positions with mouths wide open and hair feeling the force of gravity.

Sochi has seen an eclectic mix of sports but none has the dramatic effect of the ice dancing performances when the skaters have to get into character.
The Germans were perhaps the most extreme. Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexaner Gazsishowed showed off a very strange routine, dressed as an exotic dancer and someone who looked akin to a librarian.
And even the American champions in the pairs competition, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, couldn't prevent themselves from an embarrassing position or two.
