Gary Richrath, guitarist and vocalist for REO Speedwagon, is born. (1949)

The Animals first U.K. tour as headliners open in Manchester, England, with Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, Tommy Tucker and the Nasvhille Teens as support acts. (1964)

The Jimi Hendrix Experience plays a their first major concert for an audience of 14,500 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The British press characterizes Hendrix as "the wild man of pop." (1966)

"How I Won the War," Richard Lester's anti-war black comedy starring John Lennon. is given its world premiere at London's Premiere Theatre. (1967)

Led Zeppelin plays its first U.K. date at London's Marquee Club. The seminal heavy-metal band made its world debut in Scandinavia at the start of the month. (1968)

John Lennon and Yoko Ono are arrested and charged with possession of marijuana during a raid on Ringo Starr's London apartment, where the two are staying. (1968)

Mary Woodson, who claims to be Al Green's girlfriend, shoots herself to death in the singer's home.
