Fighting it out: Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller goes toe-to-toe with Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier
Two Canadian hockey teams offered a new meaning to Dancing on Ice during a pre-season friendly on Sunday. Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres showed that this pre-season contest was as much down to fight-practice as it was match-practice.
Toronto led the National Hockey League’s fighting statistics the previous season, with a whopping 44 fights over the course of the season, according to HockeyFights.com.
The melee lasted over three minutes at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, with many of the players running on from the side-lines to get a taste of the action.
Toronto’s David Clarkson, who recently signed for the Leafs on a seven-year contract worth $36.75m, was handed a 10-game suspension for his involvement in the brawl.
He will now be unable to make his debut until October 25.
