Red Arrow Drunk Cowboy Rides Horse Into Bar, Ropes Victim

Posted Aug 15, 2013 8:28 AM CDT

SCOTT, LA (WAFB) -

Police in Scott, LA say they were called to the Cowboy's Saloon in the small town just after midnight Tuesday.

The city's slogan is 'Where the West begins,' and if you were in the saloon early Tuesday morning, you would have seen a man ride his horse into the bar and use a lasso to "rope" another man in the bar.

Police say the man on the horse, now identified as 26-year-old James Rene Mouton, became highly intoxicated at the saloon and unloaded his horse that was in a trailer into the parking lot. He rode the horse inside the bar, then left and went down the road; then he returned and rode his horse into the bar again.

A concerned patron of the bar escorted Mouton and his horse out of the bar. Once he was outside, reports say Mouton roped a 47-year-old man with a lasso and dragged him through the parking lot.

Police say Mouton then rode the horse to his parent's house and walked back to the bar. Police found him after his attempt to hide.

Once he was in police custody, the report says Mouton threatened to retaliate against the off-duty officers.

He is now in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on three charges of disturbing the peace, remaining after forbidden, second degree battery and public intimidation and retaliation.
