WWE 2K14: New Developments That Will Improve Gameplay

We are just over three months away from the highly anticipated release of WWE 2K14, but details about the game are few and far between.
There are bound to be a slew of changes with the move from THQ to 2K Sports, and fans are undoubtedly excited about the always-hard-to-put-down video game.
Still, the WWE video game franchise has done a good job of keeping its lips sealed and only further increasing intrigue and fascination surrounding the new version.

Despite that mystery, though, we still know a few details. We have a very (very, very) early look at the roster (The Ultimate Warrior!), and we have been given a glimpse at some of the initial, subtle gameplay tweaks, via Aubrey Sitterson of 2K Sports.

Let's take a look at the best ones out of that latter group.

More Two-Counts

Easily one of the most infuriating glitches in last year's version, the lack of two counts has been addressed.

And "lack" is being quite generous. Whether you were participating in a quick match or a 60-minute battle, the propensity to go straight from strictly one-counts to pinfall seriously took away from the experience of the game.

When you are locked in an epic back-and-forth match for the WWE championship, seeing precisely zero two-counts can be maddening.

This might seem like a minuscule problem if you haven't played the game, but the addition of consistent two-counts will be vital, making matches more entertaining, enjoyable and realistic.

New Moves

It's still early, but it already looks like there are going to be a slew of new moves.

Not only are "catch finishers" being expanded so that they can be done in a variety of different ways, but there will be new "OMG" moments. They will include double AA's, double Shellshocks and double Chokeslams, as well as new moves outside of the ring.

The steady growth of moves will only increase the chances of more lifelike matches—thus a more unique, authentic experience.
Yes, please.

More Fluid Animation

Wrestling games have always been inherently more difficult to give the appearance of looking realistic than other sports games.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly why that is, but even on next-generation systems, wrestling games have always looked choppy, uneven and awkward.
Still, there's plenty of hope. In my opinion, 2013's version was the best yet in terms of fluidity, and it sounds like this year's will be much better.
Spanning from an "overhauled" (that's one of the best words you can ever here when it comes to new video games) navigation system, gameplay will be faster, more "natural-looking" and far more free-flowing.
Color me excited.
