MMA MMA: Undisciplined' St. Pierre Chokes at Poker Event

'Undisciplined' Georges St. Pierre knocked out of World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2013 in Las Vegas

By Bleachersrepoort on Jul 10 2013

USA TODAY Sports

He hasn't been finished inside the Octagon in more than seven years, but UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre was KO'd from the World Series of Poker (WSOP) on Day 1 of action for the second straight year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre may dominate the action inside the Octagon, but when he knuckles up to the poker table, the shoe, as they say, is on the other foot.

For the second straight year, "Rush" has been knocked out on Day 1 at the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) "No Limit Hold 'Em" tournament earlier this week at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And as disciplined a fighter as the French-Canadian is inside the cage, he apparently lacks in that department when he tries to bluff the best pokers players in the business.

He admits his weakness to Poker Listings:

Quote:
"I am known as a very disciplined fighter, but also a very undisciplined poker player. That's what I'm working on, I need to be more disciplined."
In town for the UFC Middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman at UFC 162 last weekend (July 6, 2013), St. Pierre hung around to test his hand against the best poker players in the world -- which required a $10,000 buy-in -- as part of his sponsorship with 888poker.com.

While he didn't have much luck in "Sin City" this time around, St. Pierre -- who was among a record-setting 79,471 total entries -- will hope to be dealt a better hand when he returns to the fight capital of the world on Nov. 16, 2013, to take on Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC 167.

Anyone think he'll bust there, too, just like "The Spider?"
