What a performance from the host nation, though they have won it for the third time in a row, this victory takes on a significance well above that of this tournament.
This performance will have laid down a real marker to the rest of the world ahead of next year's World Cup.
From the moment the Brazilians extended their own national anthem it looked like there would only be one winner, they were completely in charge from first to last.
And though Spain had chances, they were, at times, like a rabbit caught in the headlights. They had no answer for Brazil's pressing game and no answer for the speed and trickery of Neymar.

Alves needed to play a ball to Jadson a little bit earlier and it would have been panic stations for the World and European champions.
