Soccer WF: Beckham Mulls Club Ownership

Report: David Beckham mulls MLS plans

December 5, 2012

Beckham's got MJ on speed dial

David Beckham talks about his friendship with Michael Jordan, why he chose his number and that the NBA great is a useful contact for restaurant recommendations.

David Beckham has two offers as part of his quest to become the owner of an emerging Major League Soccer club, according to a report.

The MLS has plans to establish franchises in Miami and a second one in New York and both clubs have approached the 37-year-old about an ownership role, the BBC reported Wednesday.
As part of the contract he signed on joining Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007, Beckham included the option to become an owner of an MLS club. There is speculation that he could end up as a part owner of Galaxy as well.
The former Manchester United midfielder said last week he is mulling over "some quite exciting options" as he seeks the final challenge of his career.

Last week, he told Sky Sports he has been in talks with an MLS franchise about owning a stake in a team.
A Ft. Lauderdale-based club, the Miami Fusion, played in the MLS from 1998 to 2001.
Beckham, who left the Los Angeles Galaxy after Saturday's MLS Cup final, has been linked with possible moves to Australia's A-League or Paris Saint-Germain.
Beckham also said "retirement hasn't come into my head yet.

"I do think I'll be spending more time in England though and it's good for our kids to see their grandparents," he told Sky Sports.
"Over the last six years it's been difficult not seeing them as much as we'd like and they'd like, but we definitely won't be leaving L.A. for good."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
