The Artemis 2 Missions Moon Flyby

MailOnline 6 APR 2026

For the first time in more than half a century, astronauts will fly around the Moon on Monday, marking the high point of the Artemis 2s lunar mission.

The flyby will last around seven hours, starting Monday around 2:45 p.m. eastern US time (1845 GMT) and ending around 9:20 p.m. (0120 GMT)

Watch live coverage as NASA launches its mammoth Space Launch System rocket with four astronauts on a mission to loop around the moon and back. Liftoff of Artemis 2 from pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center is scheduled during a launch window that opens at 6:24 p.m. EDT

NASA astronaut and mission commander Reid Wiseman leads the crew, which includes fellow NASA astronauts Victor Glover and Christina Koch along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

The SLS rocket will take an easterly trajectory on departure from Floridas Space Coast.

Our live coverage of the final countdown and launch with commentary from Spaceflight Nows Will Robinson-Smith will start soon after the completion of fueling.
