Madeleine McCanns sister and brother have told the trial of two women accused of stalking their family of the distressing, creepy and disturbing messages they received.


Twins Amelie and Sean McCann, 20, said they were contacted on social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram by Julia Wandelt, claiming to be their sister who disappeared aged three during a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007.

The court heard messages included Wandelt claiming to have childhood memories of playing Ring a Ring o Roses with them.

Polish national Wandelt is accused of sending a letter, calls, voicemails and WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry McCann, and sending Maddies younger siblings, twins Amelie and Sean McCann, Instagram messages claiming to be the missing girl.

She is on trial alongside co accused Karen Spragg who is accused of one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress. She is alleged to have made calls, sent letters and attended the home address of Mr and Mrs McCann.

Amelie told jurors I just knew she was not Madeleine.

I have a feeling that there would be something about her that I would maybe recognise, whereas I didnt think she looks like us.

She is Polish and has Polish family that are her parents. It just didnt make sense to me


Took a Toll On Mum....

Ms Wandelt posted a letter through the McCanns door a day after she and Spragg turned up outside on 7 December 2024. The letter read;

'Im so sorry for causing you so much distress, but when I saw you yesterday, my emotions were so strong. I felt a close connection to you. I dont like to see you being upset.

All I want is to find out the truth. I have memories and I have gathered a lot of evidences supporting my case. I think that inside your heart you believe and know who I am and I am your daughter.

I dont understand why you dont want to do a DNA test with me. I think you are scared, but whatever makes you scared, just remember that you are stronger than that'

Amelie McCann has told the trial that the alleged stalking took a toll on her mother Kate McCanns wellbeing.

She said; I think my mum found it the hardest and was harassed, I guess, by Julia more than the rest of us.

It definitely took a toll on her and her wellbeing because all the time her phone would be going off and it would be Julia.

Its upsetting when someones begging you to believe them and playing with your emotions to the point you are questioning yourself and doubting yourself.

My mum really struggled with that her saying 'Im your daughter'


Madeleine McCanns family are giving evidence in court in the trial of a woman who allegedly claimed to be the missing toddler.

What We Heard From Ellie McQueen

Before the lunch break, the court heard from Ellie McQueen, a close friend of the McCann family who was also allegedly contacted by Julia Wandelt online.

Heres what she told the court;

McQueen said shes known the McCann family her entire life and described Madeleine McCann as like a little sister before her disappearance in 2007

She said messages sent to her by Wandelt on Facebook using a profile named Julia Julia were relentless

She said Wandelt seemed upset and aggravated and sent her DNA evidence that she is Maddie, which were passed on to police

The court saw screenshots of apparent messages sent on Facebook from Wandelt to McQueen in which she said she remembered a life with the McCann family

In other messages, she claimed she had the same spot in my right eye and lots of the same moles as Madeleine.


As the prosecution finished asking Mrs McCann questions, Julia Wandelt sobbed loudly and shouted 'why are you doing this to me'

Officers escorted her out of the dock at Leicester Crown Court as she continued to cry uncontrollably. Moments earlier, Mrs McCann had outlined her distress after Wandelt and co defendant Karen Spragg turned up on her doorstep.
