Soccer WF: Wenger Wants Transfers

Arsenal attack missing something - Arsene Wenger

27 August - BBC Sports

Arsene Wenger may boost Arsenal squad with new signings

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he could make further signings after admitting his side lacked a cutting edge in the 0-0 draw with Stoke.

The result means the Gunners have failed to score in their opening two Premier League games after selling Robin van Persie to Manchester United.

"We always felt we were dangerous, but we couldn't finish it off. We have work to do in the final third," he said.

"We are active and there could still be action in the transfer market."

Arsenal have already signed French striker Olivier Giroud, German forward Lukas Podolski and Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla, who impressed at the Britannia Stadium.

But Giroud and Podolski struggled to test Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic as the Gunners failed to create many clear-cut chances.

However, despite the problems in front of goal, the Gunners manager was content with a draw and praised Arsenal's defensive performance as his team kept their second consecutive clean sheet.

"It was a point at Stoke and that is normally a good performance but I still have some regrets because there was more in the game for us," Wenger told BBC Sport.

"Defensively we were solid and dealt with the problems they wanted to give us, technically we were alright, but we still lacked some sharpness and accuracy in our passing and movement in the final third.

"I don't want to take anything away from Robin van Persie, he is an exceptional football player, but I still don't worry that we will score goals with the players we have.

"We lacked a bit of understanding of the players in the final third. We have many new players and you could see that something was missing."
