Jota and Rute Cardoso were married just 11 days ago


The 28 year old who was married less than two weeks ago was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva, when the incident was recorded around 12.40am.

According to the news agency EFE quoting police sources, the two brothers were killed when their Lamborghini came off the R?as Bajas highway at kilometer 65, heading towards Benavente, shortly after midnight.

The sources consulted suggest that the car may have suffered a blowout of one of its tires while overtaking, causing it to leave the road and catch fire.

Upon the arrival of the emergency services, the death of two men was confirmed.The news has sent shockwaves around the sporting world.

A Portuguese international, Jota was an extraordinarily talented sportsman at the peak of his career. He was married to the mother of his three children, Rute Cardoso, in Porto on June 20th and was due to return to Merseyside for pre season training next week, preparing for a new season at a club where he has been a key figure in the clubs recent successes.

A prodigious talent as a youngster, he moved to the Premier League in 2017, building his reputation at Wolverhampton Wanderers before making his move to Anfield under Jurgen Klopp in 2020.

Jota was an immediate success, part of a side which regularly competed for the Premier League and Champions League title.
