The UK will send 350 advanced air defence missiles, built in Britain and adapted in record time for ground launch, using GBP70MIL of interest raised through the governments extraordinary revenue acceleration scheme.

The move marks the first time the UK has used Russia linked funds to directly bankroll weaponry for Kyiv.

The missiles will be deployed through UK supplied Raven systems five more of which are en route to Ukraine, taking the total to 13. Originally designed as air to air missiles, ASRAAMs have been retrofitted by RAF engineers and MBDA UK to fire from the back of a British made truck. The conversion took just three months.

Starmer, speaking before Natos annual summit in The Hague, said Russia, not Ukraine, should pay the price for Putins barbaric and illegal war. It is only right we use seized Russian assets to strengthen Ukraines air defences. The security of Ukraine is vital to our own.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed Ukraine has intelligence that Vladimir Putins Russia is preparing military operations in Europe.

Mr Zelensky made the comments following a report from Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukraines military intelligence, and said the Russian leadership is preparing new military operations on European territory.

The Ukrainian president said Ukraine is preparing joint decisions for defence, in particular with the United Kingdom and the European Union and that allies would be informed. He did not reveal further details contained in the report or expand on what evidence was included.

Details of planned operations by Russia, when they are expected or countries that could be targeted were not shared by Zelensky. He also said Ukraine is observing a continued intellectual decline within the Russian leadership

Mr Zelensky also praised economic sanctions on Russia, saying they were causing tangible damage. This week, Putin received a stark warning from Russian economy minister Maxim Reshetnikov, who said Russias economy is on the verge of transitioning to a recession.

Russian Warship Sneaked Through English Channel With Sanctioned Oil Tankers

Boikiy, a missile-armed corvette, broadcast a fake ID signal as it escorted two shadow fleet tankers

It is not the first time this year the Boikiy, front has entered UK waters it was tracked in the Channel in March

On tracking sites it wrongly appeared as ships which have previously used that ID. BBC Verify matched the ID to the Boikiy by using satellite imagery, tracking data and a video of it passing under a bridge in Denmark.

It travelled alongside two vessels known to be part of Russias shadow fleet a network of tankers whose ownership can be obscured and are used to transport sanctioned oil products.

The Russian embassy in London did not respond to a BBC Verify request for comment. But experts told BBC Verify that recent Western moves against the shadow fleet may have prompted Moscow to use its military to protect the tankers.

Last month, a Russian Su 35 fighter jet flew past a shadow fleet vessel and entered Estonian airspace after the country attempted to intercept the ship, which was suspected of carrying sanctioned oil.

The action seems designed to deter the UK and other Nato states from attempting to board and, or, seize these vessels, since the presence of a military escort heightens the risk of confrontation and further escalation, Dmitry Gorenburg, a senior research scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses, said.

Attention was first drawn to the Boikiy on social media by independent open source intelligence analyst Christian Panton on Bluesky.

The ship is known to have left West Africa in June, where it was taking part in a diplomatic mission. Photos posted online showed the ship docked in Guineas capital, Conakry.

The corvette left port without activating its Automatic Identification System. All ships are expected to broadcast the signal, though military vessels often sail without it.

However, a vessel travelling under the generic identification number 400000000 a code sometimes used by vessels who want to alert others to their presence for safety reasons without identifying themselves was seen briefly near the Canary Islands.

The location is consistent with the time it could have taken the Boikiy to travel the 200km from Conakry. Satellite imagery reviewed by BBC Verify showed a 100m long ship, matching the dimensions of the Boikiy and distinguishing it from other vessels which had used the ID.
