German police searching for Madeleine McCann have requested the fresh searches, expected to take place between Praia da Luz where the three year old vanished and a house where Christian Brueckner used to live

Fresh police searches are due to start tomorrow near the spot where Madeleine McCann was last seen.
German police have requested the searches, expected to take place between Praia da Luz she vanished on May 3, 2007 and a house near the holiday resort where principal suspect Christian Brueckner used to live.
A well placed Portuguese source confirmed this weeks operation was scheduled get underway tomorrow but said some preparation work may take place beforehand. He said: They will be land searches only. The main objective is to look for any signs of Madeleines body.
The main suspect in the case is a German national identified by media as Christian Brueckner, who is currently serving a seven year prison sentence in Germany for raping a 72 year old woman in Portugal in 2005.
He is under investigation on suspicion of murder in the McCann case but hasnt been charged. He spent many years in Portugal, including in Praia da Luz, around the time of the childs disappearance. Brueckner has denied any involvement in her disappearance.

Around 30 German police officers have already arrived in Portugal and will be starting the search tomorrow.
We are talking about a rural area with a lot of waste ground. Some of the areas that are going to be looked at have already been searched before.
The German police team is expected to include forensic experts, who were also present for the May 2023 Arade Dam searches.
It is not clear if detectives are acting on a new tip off about where Madeleines body could be.
Portugals Policia Judiciaria police force and the countrys Attorney Generals office have yet to make any official comment and are not expected to do so until after the search work begins.
Sources said today the new searches would take place on more than 21 privately owned pieces of land near to a ramshackle rented cottage on the outskirts of Praia da Luz where Brueckner spent several years living. The landowners havent had to be asked for permission and they cant stop the searches from continuing if they turn up because police will be acting with a judicial warrant
They said the search area would extend from the house eastwards towards an inland area known as Atalaia in the direction of Lagos. The search will take place on 21 privately owned pieces of land which in some cases are open and not fenced off.
Wells, ruins and water storage tanks will be searched.
Blue tents have been put in place in preparation for the early start tomorrow when the German police who are leading the search will be deployed
