Michael Corleone? TRUMP's More Like Biff Tannen, & China Just Called His BLUFF and Expands Its' Business by Addressing Latin America & Caribbean Trade Forum

(( Biff Tannen is a fictional character in Back to the Future. He is portrayed as a hulking, belligerent, dim witted bully who obtains what he wants by intimidating others into doing his work for him, or by cheating ))

When it comes to making threats, Trump is all bluster, as evidenced by China calling Trumps bluff in his very own trade war

REUTERS 13 MAY 2025

Author Jonathan Chait wrote that Chinas deft handling of the U.S. president offered a lesson for everybody Trump threatens, whether people, countries or businesses or universities, just IGNORE him and he'll eventually back down.

When Donald Trump launched his trade war on the world, he issued a stern warning: Do NOT retaliate and you will be rewarded, Chait wrote. China ignored the warning....

It was rewarded anyway, Trump largely suspended his trade war in return for nothing but promises of ongoing discussions, which shows he is a coward and a bully.

Chait called Trumps approach dominance theater straight out of his hit TV show, The Apprentice.

Trump is performing a character, the presidential version of the boss he played in The Apprentice, sitting in a plush leather chair doling out justice to quavering supplicants, Chait wrote.

In the end, Trump held out for one month before backing down, Chait noted.

The decades of China allegedly ripping off the United States were apparently forgotten, along with Chinas insolence in retaliating and the supposed need for the U.S. to reduce its reliance on Chinese imports.

The administration isnt even pretending that it forced China to pay any special price for its defiance. It is memory holing the entire do not retaliate episode and moving on as if the point this whole time was to get along better with Beijing.

Chait concluded that winning with Trump is often impossible, because the relationship itself is lose lose.

He described Trump as a classic bully who craves submission and fears conflict. His fervent supporters want him to be Michael Corleone, but he's more like Biff Tannen.

Standing up to Trump does not mean that you win. But giving in guarantees that you lose.

China Hosts Latin American, Caribbean Nations Amid US Trade War Talks

BEIJING, 12 May -Reuters; China will host a summit that includes its key Latin American trade partners this week in an effort to advance influence and partnerships in the region, as Beijing and Washington work on defusing their trade war.

Bilateral trade with the bloc was worth $427 billion from January to September 2024, according to Chinese data.

The China-CELAC Forum challenges long-standing American geopolitical and economic dominance in the region, which the Trump administration has sought to counter, and takes place after a weekend of high stakes trade talks between the U.S. and China that ended on a positive note when Trump backed down.

China has been trying to marshal a global coalition against what it called an abuse of tariffs by Trump.

China has reached out to Southeast Asia and Central Asia calling on its trade partners to hold the line against unilateral bullying and to uphold multilateralism.

China also made progress on trade issues with the European Union, agreeing to discuss setting minimum prices on Chinese made electric vehicles.

Free trade was at the centre of discussions Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had with counterparts from Venezuela, Peru, Uruguay and Cuba in Beijing on Monday. Wang called on them to defend multilateralism and deepen cooperation.

Trump is NOT happy at Chinas growing expansion

The China CELAC Forum, an intergovernmental cooperation platform between China and Latin American and Caribbean nations, has been a vehicle to deepen dialogue between China and the bloc over trade, investment and infrastructure cooperation under Chinas Belt and Road Initiative

The U.S.based BlackRock consortiums $23 billion deal to acquire Hong Kong based CK Hutchisons port operations near the Panama Canal, which Trump hailed as reclaiming the waterway, triggered Beijings concerns and prompted a regulatory review.......
