Saudi Judoka Banned from Wearing Hijab at Olympics

A competitor from Saudi Arabia, who is one of the country's first female athletes ever selected for the Olympics, will not be allowed to wear a headscarf during competition, the International Judo Federation said.

President Marius Vizer ruled that "according to the principles and spirit of judo," Wojdan Ali Seraj Abdulrahim Shahrkhani could not fight with a headscarf.

It has now been decided that Saudi Judoka can compete wearing a Hijab.
The decision was reversed when her Father said she would have to withdraw from the games. The Olympic Committee relented after it also took into account that this was the first Olympic Games that Saudi Arabia had sent athletes to take part in it.
