 A Musk Read

There was a time when American presidents used the laws of the land to constrain excessive wealth.
During his presidency Theodore Roosevelt took on the robber barons by bringing 44 anti-trust suits against companies accused of monopolistic practices. There can be no real political democracy unless there is something approaching economic democracy, Roosevelt once said.

By contrast, Donald Trump has welcomed big business into the White House. The man who vowed to drain the swamp has filled it with oligarchs, cranks and donors.

His last administration included 17 millionaires, this time he?s going one better by appointing the worlds richest man, Elon Musk, to co-run the Department for Government Efficiency.

One of the driving forces behind Roosevelts determination to break the monopolies was the growing outcry at the gap between rich and poor.

At the time the richest 2% of Americans owned a third of the country?s wealth. Now the situation is even worse with the richest 1% (which includes Elon Musk and Donald Trump) owning 40% of the countrys wealth.

Such is the current outcry at this inequality that Americans handed one of its architects a landslide victory.

GEORGE WASHINGTON SAID THERE WILL BE THOSE THAT....

However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

We are either a United people, or we are not. If the former, let us, in all maters of general concern act as a nation, which have national objects to promote, and a national character to support. If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it...George Washington
