Worlds’ Loneliest Man Living 5 Hours Away From Nearest Humans in Freezing -70C Siberian Forest
Samuil, the worlds lonliest man, can be found hunting food whilst dodging bears by his hut in the Siberian rainforest - he swapped his life in Russia for an isolated one in the woods
MailOnline 8 JUL 2024
A guy who has been dubbed the world's loneliest man has spent two decades living in a Siberian rainforest with bears and wolves.
Samuil, who resides amongst snow-blanketed trees in Yakutsk, Siberia, has to walk five hours a day just to reach civilisation. The 67-year-old lives a modest life inside a self-made wooden hut with his pet dogs.
He built his home with the help of materials that he picked up on his daily walks, with his windows made merely from cellophane.
But being separated from humans isn't the only downside of being in the wilderness, as the Siberian native also has to cope with crippling temperatures of -70C. Samuil can often be found showering in the ice-cold snow or searching for food.
And the only way to keep himself entertained is to try and force himself to open a frozen magazine. The 67-year-old used to live in a sparse village in Russia but said his life was "quite boring" back then. But now, he is kept occupied by gathering wood for the fire, tuning into the radio and cooking for himself. He has become an expert in fishing and often eats hares.
Samuil has also made a makeshift freezer by digging a hole below his hut which requires no electricity as it is so cold. His windowless home doesn't provide much warmth as it has huge holes in the walls. The weather conditions can become so cold that he sometimes wakes up to his hair completely frozen.
"I have seen many bears passing by my house. They are walking around my house. My dogs are always barking. Thank God they don't come inside they could be very dangerous. But they don't care about me, we are like neighbours."
