Default Re: POWER of PRAYER- No Matter Which Faith You Follow=GOD is With You

Listen and Obey

"And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' And Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant hears.'" - 1 Samuel 3:10

In 1 Samuel 3:10, the young boy Samuel is taught a profound lesson in listening and obeying. The passage describes how Samuel, under the guidance of Eli the priest, hears the voice of the Lord calling him in the night. At first, Samuel mistakes the voice for Eli's, but he responds with devotion nonetheless, saying, "Speak, for your servant is listening."

This simple yet powerful statement, "Speak, for your servant is listening," demonstrates the importance of listening to and obeying God's voice. We have information, distractions, and noise coming at us every day, so it's increasingly important to silence our desires and agendas and tune our hearts to hear God's voice. Dr. Henry Blackaby, author of Experiencing God, taught that we could hear God through:

1. The Holy Spirit
2. The Bible
3. Prayer
4. The church
5. Our circumstances

Samuel's obedience is a testimony to the transformative power of surrendering to God's will. Despite his youth and inexperience, he wholeheartedly trusts the Lord's guidance. His unwavering obedience, even when the message is difficult or unfamiliar, underscores the profound impact of faithfulness in following God's directions.

The story of Samuel reminds us that obedience is not a one-time decision but an ongoing process of spiritual transformation at any age. It is important to examine our lives and ask questions that help us grow and mature in our relationship with Jesus. You can begin by asking yourself:

Am I listening to God's voice amidst the world's constant noise?
Am I willing to obey, even when it requires stepping out in faith?

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, we are grateful to You for revealing in 1 Samuel 3 that listening and obeying help us align our hearts with Your will. Lord, forgive us for allowing distractions and noises to keep us from hearing You. May we willingly surrender our desires to Your agenda for our lives. Help us live with a humble and surrendered attitude so we can fulfill Your will and honor and glorify You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people -- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4
