For the first time since dropping their New Year’s Eve extravaganza, Fighting and Entertainment Group, the parent company of DREAM, will host a MMA show on May 29th inside the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. “Fight for Japan” will feature the first and second rounds of Dream’s Bantamweight Grand Prix, as well as a handful of individual bouts.
While the people of Japan currently have more important issues to deal with, several small mixed martial arts events have taken place in the Land of the Rising Sun since the tragic earthquake and tsunami hit on March 11th. During today’s press conference, several Japanese promoters said they intended to band together and raise money for their country.
This card marks their first efforts in helping rebuild their homeland.
Participants in the eight-man tourney include Hideo Tokoro, Masakazu Imanari, Yoshiro Maeda, Keisuke Fujiwara, Darren Uyenoyama, Kenji Osawa, Takafumi Otsuka and Atsushi Yamamoto.
The final round of the tournament is rumored to take place in July.
Dream’s highly anticipated return is also expected to showcase several non-tournament bouts, which could feature Shinya Aoki, Joachim Hansen, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Katsunori Kikuno, Akiyo “Wicky” Nishiura and Caol Uno.
