Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth Weather: Blistering Heatwave Scorches The Country

Millions of Aussies have been urged to stay out of heat as one state braces for a trifecta of wild weather including ANOTHER cyclone

MailOnline 5 FEB 2024

A blistering heatwave is about to hit the country with millions of Aussies being warned to seek shelter, while one state prepares for disastrous weather, including another cyclone.

Parts of the ACT, NSW, South Australia and Victoria are expected to reach 40C on Sunday. The same weather was experienced by Western Australians last week.

Queensland is facing a trifecta of wild weather, with severe flooding in the state's north-west, heatwave conditions in the south-east, and another tropical cyclone possibly forming in the Coral Sea - making it the third one of the season.

Parts of the ACT, NSW , South Australia and Victoria are expected to reach 40C maximum temperatures on Sunday

Sydney is expected to have temperatures rise, with its western suburbs, such as Parramatta and Penrith, to hit 39C.

Meanwhile, the temperature in Melbourne will reach 37C and people in Adelaide will feel a top of 36C.

And it's not just the capital cities feeling the heat, as the regions are set for soaring temperatures, with the conditions peaking on Sunday.

Renmark in South Australia’s east will be a whopping 44C, while Mildura in Victoria’s west will hit a maximum of 43C.

Temperatures are forecast to be lower on Monday for most of South Australia and Victoria, but western Sydney will not escape the heat with 39C temperatures.

Meanwhile, many people on the west coast have had some cool relief after the heatwave conditions of last week.

Perth will have a maximum of 27C on Sunday, however conditions will remain hot in the northern part of Western Australia.

In Queensland, a tropical low forming in the Coral Sea could develop into a cyclone next week.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Felim Hanniffy told the Courier Mail by Wednesday the chance of the cyclone developing will increase by 10 per cent.

By Thursday and Friday, the chance is increased again to 'moderate'.

However, the trajectory and if it will make landfall is unknown, with some suggesting it could make a coastal crossing next weekend.

'The system during next week is expected to take on a more western track towards the Queensland coast, but there is still large uncertainty on whether we’ll see a land falling system,' Mr Hanniffy said.

Mr Haniffy believes some scenarios could mean a coastal crossing could happen later in the week or possibly over the weekend.
