London party boat sinks in Thames after heavy rainfall from Storm Henk

Police have blasted idiot drivers after they moved road signs and drove on into floods - saying their actions are the 'height of stupidity'.

Almost 250 flood warnings remain in place across England and Wales as conditions continue to cause travel chaos across the country.

Severe flooding has led to hundreds of people being evacuated, cows drowning, rail lines being blocked and roads turning to rivers amid torrential rain.

But while the Met Office predicts the wet weather has passed, water levels remain high and temperatures as low as minus 6C are predicted for the next few days with the UK Health Security Agency UKHSA) issuing a yellow cold weather alert.

Continuous rain for 41 days has racked misery across the UK as the wake of Storm Henk ravaged towns and villages.

Leicestershire Police slammed the motorists after CCTV captured them stopping their cars, getting out, moving the signs out of the way and driving on.

A police spokesman said 'This is the height of stupidity - these signs are put there for a purpose.

Local HERO Saving Mum and Child Trapped in Car From Rising Flood Waters Caught on Camera

The stunning videos show the moment a mother and three-year-old daughter were rescued from a car wedged under a bridge and gradually being submerged by rising flood water. Liam Stych has been praised as a 'local hero' after stepping in to save the pair in Birmingham on Tuesday (January 2).

The brave rescuer was out for a walk with his pregnant partner, Tia, when they spotted the family stuck in the car, BirminghamLive reports. In a video clip, Tia was heard telling the pair they would need to escape via the window.

A few seconds later, Liam was filmed pulling the child from the car. He also managed to save the mum before securing the vehicle to the bridge to stop it being washed away.

Officers at the scene hailed his bravery and called him a 'local hero'. Liam told the BBC that events unfolded fast but insisted he was not a hero. He said: "I said to the woman, 'now's your time you know, take my hand and we can go'. At that moment she just put her arms out to me for help.

"I don't know how we did it, but we sort of jumped in a way that we made it on to the grass."

"The car was going with the current," Tia told the BBC. "It was just scary."
