Berlin Christmas Market: Stalls Burst Into Flames as Tourists Flee

A fire broke out at Berlins' Christmas Market, consuming two stalls and sending tourists, hoping to spend an enjoyable festive evening in the German capital, fleeing from the flames

DailyMail 6 DEC 2023

Shocking video emerging from the famous German festive attraction shows two stalls catching fire.

The flames could be seen from hundreds of metres away and instead of enjoying their time, visitors were forced to flee from the scene as it was briefly evacuated.

The market, known for its traditional charm and ice rink, instead saw a fire break out. Dramatic photos captured the incident at the market in front of the Red Town Hall. In video, tourists could be seen fleeing from the fire, as others clustered together, watching on in horror.

The fire consumed two stalls which had been selling festive-themed goods. The blaze took place last night, December 5, and firefighters raced to the scene to douse the flames. German outlet Bild claimed that as fire crews battled the fire, two small gas cartridges exploded.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Express reported that a spokesman for the Berlin fire department said: "At the Christmas market at the Red Town Hall, two stalls caught fire. The fire is extinguished. The site is under control."

Local media reported that two people suffered minor injuries - with one being a market employee who tried to extinguish the flames, and another being a visitor treated for smoke inhalation.

After arriving on the scene, emergency services sealed off the area and turned off the electricity. Police are now said to be investigating the cause of the fire.
