Default Mayweather Wins $1.8 Million Bet

Did Floyd Mayweather place a winning $1.8 million bet on the Los Angeles Clippers?

Monday, April 30, 2012, Bleachersreport

Cory Olsen | MLive.comFloyd Mayweather has quite an affinity for sports betting.

LAS VEGAS -- If you think Los Angeles Clippers fans were excited about their 24-point fourth-quarter comeback against the Memphis Grizzlies last night, Floyd Mayweather might have had them beat.

According to Twitter user "Incarcerated Bob," Mayweather, who has quite the affinity for sports betting, had $1.8 million riding on the Clippers (as 6-point underdogs) last night across seven different sports books in town.

He cited user "TeamMoneyPicks" as the source for his information, who reportedly serves as Mayweather's official handicapper.

The Clippers trailed by 19 points at halftime, by 27 at one point in the third quarter and by 24 with eight minutes remaining in Game 1. Los Angeles tied an NBA playoff record by rallying to win from a 21-point deficit to begin the fourth quarter.

If Mayweather bet, and won, as much as is being reported, he doesn't have much time to spend it right now. He's busy training for his fight Saturday night against Miguel Cotto at MGM Grand.

This is Mayweather's second rumored seven-figure bet of 2012. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he bet $1 million against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos in the NFL playoffs against the New England Patriots.

He won that one, too. (Of course, nobody sees any of Mayweather's losing tickets.)

"I've won a lot of money on games, I've lost a good piece of money on games," Mayweather told MLive.com's David Mayo in March. "But at the end of the day, some of the games that they're talking about are rumors they put out there, that are false. In sports, you win and you lose, but the main thing is you have to win more than you lose.

"A $50,000 bet, or a $100,000 bet, that's a normal bet," he said. "I don't really get like, into, 'Oh, I won $100,000,' at all. Once you've been involved with it for so long, if you lose a couple hundred (thousand), you'll be like, 'OK, let me wait for the right pick -- the right, right pick -- and I'll get a hundred from that.' Then wait for another right pick. Win a couple hundred, then you're up. It's about having more ups than downs."

I'd say Sunday night was a case of the "ups" for Mayweather.
