Default re: US Cruise Ship Refused to Help Drowning Castaways

What isn't being said here, is that it has been a long standing maritime law that you aid people in distress. This is why the Titanic, when it went down, had rescue ships as soon as they were able to arrive. Even oil platforms are required to obey the maritime law in this respect. If you so state that you are having a marine emergency by radio or by verbal, they will by law assist you. (They may charge you later for aid rendered but can not just up and refuse assistance.) The cruise ship is liable to be fined for ignoring of someone in distress unless they didn't know there was an emergency.
