US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to become the first speaker in a century to be ousted from his seat in the US House of Representatives.
This motion to vacate was put forward by Republican Matt Gaetz, who has been quite critical of Mr McCarthy.
It landed hard after the House Speaker agreed to extend the deadline for the government shutdown on Saturday, making a deal with the Democrats to make this happen.
One of Mr McCarthys’ supporters tried to table the motion to vacate his seat but was unsuccessful.
