Director Ridley Scott returns to helm the sequel to his critical and box office hit. 'Gladiator 2' will explore the story of Lucius, nephew of Emperor Commodus, originally played by Spencer Treat Clark and Joaquin Phoenix.
Paul Mescal ('Aftersun') takes on the role of adult Lucius, and he's surrounded by an all-star cast of Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, and Pedro Pascal. Plus, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, and Djimon Hounsou return from the first film.
In the first film, Crowes' Maximus baited Commodus into the colosseum arena and killed him, and then died from wounds he sustained in the battle. Given that they both made their way to the afterlife, it's highly unlikely they'd appear in this one, at least alive.
Crowe has made it sound like he's not involved yet. The actor previously told Collider of the project, "The only thing that I really feel about it is slightly jealous, you know?"
