A convicted killer is still on the loose after escaping prison on Monday, with police warning the public to keep away from the 'dangerous' murderer.

Bradley Gillespie, 50, escaped the Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution (AOCI) in Lima along with James Lee, 47 on Monday morning.

Lee, a convicted safecracker and burglar, was captured in Henderson, Kentucky but Gillespie is still at large.

Six-foot-tall Gillespie was found guilty of the murder of Hannah Fischer, 21, and her boyfriend Frank Tracy Jr, 47, in September 2016.

He was sentenced to two consecutive 15-year-to-life terms after he was found to have brutally shot the couple in the head.

The public in local areas has been warned to lock their doors and not to approach Gillespie as he is considered dangerous.

A $21,000 reward for information that led to the capture of one of the two men was confirmed by the United States Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF).

Henderson Police Department said the force was investigating along with "multiple" other agencies.

Earlier today, the force said Lee and Gillespie crashed a stolen car and Gillespie escaped a police chase on foot.

"At 3:16 this morning, the Henderson Police Department observed a stolen vehicle believed to be occupied by two escaped inmates out of Ohio," police said.

"Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and it attempted to flee.

"Officers pursued the vehicle until it wrecked on Camaro Drive where the two occupants fled on foot. James Marion Lee was arrested. The other suspect, Bradley Gillespie, has not been apprehended."

It continued: "Bradley Gillespie’s charges include murder, breaking and entering, theft, assault, possession of drugs, escape, forgery, receiving stolen property, weapons offenses, and burglary.

"We currently have a perimeter set up in the area of Camaro Drive and we are using resources we have to locate Bradley Gillespie.

"We encourage the community to be vigilant, keep their doors locked, and contact 911 if you have any information about his location."

Lee was apprehended on Wednesday

The Ohio Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (ODCR) and confirmed the escape and said the two were discovered missing during a prisoner count.

In a statement, the ODCR said: During the course of the investigation, prison officials determined Gillespie and Lee were last observed on surveillance video inside the facility at 8.41am on May 22."

The correctional institute also confirmed the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) was investigating.
