Never Before Seen Photos of Diana and Charles When They Were Happy With Baby William

Rare unseen pics, taken in September 1982, show a beaming King Charles cradling his infant son Prince William and Princess Diana cuddling the newborn. The photos will be auctioned next month

BBC 28 FEB 2023

Stunning private photos of Princess Diana and King Charles with a three-month-old Prince William at Balmoral in Scotland are set to be auctioned next month.

Experts predict the collection will be sold for tens of thousands.

The rare unseen pictures, which were taken in September 1982, show a beaming King Charles cradling his infant son and Princess Diana cuddling the newborn.

Other photos show Diana in her green wellies and King Charles posing next to the Queen, who is wearing a grey and red tartan skirt.

The 22 pictures were taken during a visit by British Airways businessman, Baron King, who was a friend of the Royal family.

Stephen Drake, of Willingham Auctions in Cambridgeshire, is preparing the lot for sale in the coming days.

He said the collection was sure to amass huge interest from around the world, with royal memorabilia at an all-time high.

Princess Diana's sweet link to Kate Middleton in never-before-seen candid pictures

Mr Drake added: “There were lots of photos taken of Princess Diana but these offer a really personal insight.

“The collection of photos is a real one-off, you will never come across another set of photos like this.

“The photo of King Charles holding William is such an amazing photo, he looks like such a proud happy father.

“In the photos, Diana, Charles and William look like a complete family group. You see a lot of press photos but these are nothing like those, they are being photographed as normal people, which for royalty is an amazing experience to see.

“As auctioneers we are only custodians of our items for a short amount of time and it’s very exciting to have them here. It really is causing a huge amount of interest.

“The sky is the limit on the price. We have never had anything like this before.

“Plenty of pictures have been sold of Princess Diana before, but nothing as relaxed as this and nothing as early in her marriage.
“The collection of photos come with the negatives so whoever buys it will own the copyright and that is the premium.

“There are also no other copies of these photos out there, these are the only ones. We’ll see what happens on the day, we have high hopes.”

The photos, which come complete with the original negatives, will be auctioned on March 4.

Other pictures in this latest unique collection show a relaxed-looking Princess Diana and Charles sitting on the ground and looking over the Royal estate.

Diana, who is wearing blue corduroy trousers and a yellow jumper, has put a blue coat on the ground to sit on.
In another picture Princess Diana, who is wearing a white polo neck, looks lovingly at Prince William as she shows him off to Baron King.

Another image shows Diana posing on a gate with the beautiful views of Balmoral behind her.
Charles and Diana separated in 1992, after 11 years of marriage.

Diana tragically died in a car crash on 31 August 1997 at the age of 36.
The couple’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry are now 40 and 38.

Experts say there has been fervent interest in royal memorabilia since the death of the late Queen, who passed away on September 8 last year.

A recently unearthed treasure trove of personal letters by Princess Diana, where she revealed her torment at her “desperate and ugly” divorce to Prince Charles was sold last week for £145,550 at an auction in Cornwall.

Diana sought support and advice from friends Susie and Tarek Kassem throughout her acrimonious and very public split from the future King Charles III. In the 32 emotionally raw letters and message cards, she described how the negotiations over the divorce settlement had left her “on my knees”.

In others she took veiled digs at the Royal Family for isolating her, told of her fears that her phone was being bugged - a plot line which featured in the latest series of The Crown - and thanked them for letting her spend an otherwise lonely Christmas and Easter with them.

The Kassems said that owning the poignant documents is a responsibility they do not wish to pass on to their children or grandchildren.

The proceeds will be donated to charities Diana supported.
The photos, which come complete with the original negatives and folder, will be auctioned at Willingham Auctions in Cambridgeshire on March 4
