A spy who sold secrets to Russia while working at the British embassy in Berlin has been jailed for more than thirteen years.

David Smith - whose locker at work contained a cartoon of Vladimir Putin strangling Angela Merkel - admitted passing on information about the embassy and its staff: crimes which a judge today said were “motivated by a hatred of Britain”, and put people at “maximum risk”
