Today In Stunting: Indoor Soccer Team Offers Contract to Allen Iverson

Bleachersreport

When I was a little kid, my dad took me to see Allen Iverson play for the Philadelphia 76ers a number of times. Now more than a decade on, AI is still plugging away as a professional athlete, mainly because he owes a lot of money. But an indoor soccer team could be willing to help him.
The Rochester Lancers are one of the seven teams that make up the Major Indoor Soccer League. They’re mostly career Indoor players, and their captain, Doug Miller, is 42 years old. But they think they can turn some heads by bringing in the four-time NBA scoring champ and 2001 MVP. In fact, they’re offering him $20,000 per game, with a $5,000 bonus for every goal scored. Not bad work if you can get it.

The team has already issued a press release:
Quote:
The Rochester Lancers, of the MISL’s top level of pro indoor soccer, today announced a contract offer to former NBA star, Allen Iverson.
The Rochester Lancers host two remaining regular season home games to conclude their season. The offer stands at $20,000 per game, with a bonus of $5,000 per goal scored, win bonuses, and merchandise bonuses. There are over 12 goals scored on average per game.
“Allen Iverson is one of the premier athletes of our time,” said Rich Randall, Vice President of the Rochester Lancers. “With his athleticism and competitive hunger, I think he can be a great fit with our team and fans as we make an important playoff push, while also driving interest to an exciting, growing sport.”
Now, like any good soccer fan, I’ve played the “what if” game regarding famous American athletes as soccer players (LeBron James as a central defender, Jerry Rice as a target striker), and given Iverson’s sheer athleticism, speed, and skill with the ball, he would have made a fantastic wingback.
