The arid, endless red centre of Australia is a much-romanticised heartland of our national identity, the grist of the real Australia in our folklore - not to mention in our overseas travel advertisements. The truth of the matter is that probably more foreign tourists get to see it than we do.
In Charles Wooley's trek around Australia, he journeys through the not-so-dead heart of our continent. Like many of us, he had no idea how breathtakingly beautiful it is.
