Twitter Rumor: Tiger Woods and Tony Romo May Pair at AT&T National

The Dallas Cowboys ended their 2011 NFL season with a 31-14 loss to the New York Giants. That is bad news for Cowboys' fans, but good news for Tony Romo who will now have a full 30 days to get his golf game in shape to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Romo is a scratch golfer who was runner-up to Jack Wagner at the 2011 American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe last July. In 2010, he made it to sectional qualifying for the US Open. Tony Romo knows golf.

The past two years he has paired with John Daly at Pebble Beach. Even though they finished strong, the duo failed to make the final round cut in 2011 after posting rounds of 65-70-64.

There is a rumor going around Twitter that the Dallas Cowboy quarterback will pair with Tiger Woods at Pebble Beach this year.

Golf Channel's Jason Sobel, tweeted in the early morning hours of Monday, January 2:

"Well, Tony Romo can start prepping for Pebble Beach Pro-Am. May have very, VERY high profile partner. I can’t be any less subtle than that."

Tiger announced late last year that he would not play at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, a course and event that has been very kind to Tiger over the years. He decided to open his 2012 campaign with a trip to Abu Dhabi on the European Tour for his January round.

There was something about a three million dollar appearance fee that seemed to get El Tigre’s attention.

Pebble Beach has also been fairly good to Tiger in the past. Does anyone remember who was runner-up in the 2000 US Open held at Pebble Beach?

Ernie Els finished at plus three over par, a mere 15 shots behind Tiger. It was also his first of four straight major wins to capture the “Tiger Slam”.

If the rumor is true, Romo and Woods would certainly be a marquee pairing. The sponsor AT&T would benefit not only from Tiger making his 2012 PGA Tour debut at Pebble Beach, but also from the media firestorm that would surround the two well known athletes.

The 2012 golf season is starting off very nicely. If Tiger could capture a win in Abu Dhabi, then golf will certainly get back to the front pages everywhere.
