(CNN) -- For the many who basked in the surprisingly warm winter days recently, it may be time to break out the heavy coats.
The bone-chilling cold is back with a vengeance.

As northern Michigan digs itself out from Monday's blizzard, cold temperatures are predicted the Southeast to hit Tuesday.

Winter weather warnings were in effect Tuesday for parts of West Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee, according to the National Weather Service.

After unseasonably warm temperatures, snow is expected to fall in most of those states causing "travel difficulties" in some areas, the weather service said.

A quick-moving snow storm was blamed for a 30-car pile up on I-75 in Kentucky in Grant County Monday morning, CNN affiliate WCPO reported.

The snow storm came on with no warning -- quickly making the streets treacherous, residents told the affiliate

"It was like something you would see in a movie. It was just unbelievable," Bobby Webb, told the affiliate. "It was just a whiteout. People were just slamming into each other like dominoes." All the injuries were minor in the crash but the interstate was closed for about four hours, WCPO reported.

Parts of northern and western Michigan were hit with a blizzard that started Sunday coating some areas with almost a foot of snow.
Heavy snow flurries were expected to taper off Tuesday for much of Michigan.
