Prince Andrew breaks cover for first time three weeks after settling sex abuse case

Prince Andrew has been pictured for the first time since it was announced he had reached an out of court settlement with his accuser Virginia Giuffre, who had brought a civil sex abuse claim against him

Last month, on February 15, it was announced he had reached an out of court settlement with his accuser Virginia Giuffre - but he has not been seen since.

However, today he was pictured driving his Range Rover after spending around an hour at Windsor Castle, where the Queen is in residence.

The settlement means he will not face a civil jury trial over allegations that he sexually abused her on three separate occasions when she was 17. Andrew has continuously denied all of Ms Giuffre's claims.

It was announced last month that the Duke of York and Ms Giuffre had reached a “settlement in principle” in her bombshell civil sex claim filed in the US - said to be £12million.

Court documents show the disgraced royal will make a "substantial donation" to Ms Giuffre's charity, which supports victims' rights.

A document submitted to a US court said: "Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms Giuffre's character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.

"It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein and commends the bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.

"He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims."

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Queen agreed to help Andrew settle his civil sex case by personally making a £2million donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity.

Under the terms of the £2m deal arranged by the Queen’s most senior advisors and the Duke of York’s legal team, the Queen agreed to help Andrew as long as she was not connected to any personal payment to Ms Giuffre, it is understood.

A royal source said: “She could not be seen to be making a payment to a victim of sexual assault, who accused her son of being an abuser.

“But a deal was structured in such a way to arrange a sizeable financial contribution to the settlement by way of a charitable donation instead.”

Yesterday, it was also reported that Prince Charles is lending Andrew millions to pay the settlement.

There had been growing calls for clarity on exactly how Andrew will fund the reported £12million payout, with demands that none of it be paid from public money.

David McClure, author of The Queen’s True Worth, told the Mirror last month: “The sums involved in Prince Andrew’s settlement are extraordinary so the public do have a right to know if public money, or indeed the Queen’s personal funds, were used. But I wouldn’t hold your breath.”

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the monarch is allowing her shamed son to remain as Queen’s Counsellor of State and keep his dukedom and service rank of Vice-Admiral, despite pressure to strip him of all remaining privileges.
