Newcastle United has officially been bought by Saudi Arabia for £305m - with a vow to take the club back to the Champions League.

Mike Ashley’s 14 year reign at St James’ Park is over, and the Toon are now owned by the richest backers in football.

The Geordie club is now set for a new era which - given the riches available from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia - will once again see United mix it with the elite.

Newcastle fans have hailed the deal - which was secretly revived over the last few weeks - as transformative for the club and potentially the North East region.
