The Haunting GHOST STORY of the Green Lady

1 Oct 2021 Weird World

As is so often the case with spirit hauntings, the Longleat House ghost is an innocent figure in history who was doomed by someone else's actions.

In 1733 Lady Louisa Carteret, known as a kind and gentle young woman, married the 2nd Viscount Weymouth, Thomas Thynne, of Longleat House in Wiltshire. It was part of their wedding arrangements that he agreed for his nineteen year old bride to bring with her to the house her own serving staff.

One amongst their number was a footman who was devoted to Lady Louisa. She had recognised his fine qualities as an honest and loyal servant, and for that reason wished to retain his service.

However, it became apparent that some other of the household staff were jealous of his privileged position in her eyes.
