Jake Delhomme heads to Houston

Jake Delhomme is going to take a break from racing horses to get back in a playoff race.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Texans will sign Jake Delhomme for quarterback depth. Delhomme is expected to compete with Kellen Clemens to backup rookie T.J. Yates for Houston.
Of course, that may just be the short-term plan. Delhomme or Clemens could earn playing time if Yates struggles and they pick up the offense quickly in practice. The plan for this week is for Delhomme to be the No. 3 quarterback.
Signing Delhomme could be a sign that the Texans genuinely want to give Yates a chance. Delhomme seems more like a mentor for Yates and a great team presence rather than someone you want starting anytime soon.
Then again, the Texans will have an experienced quarterback at the ready for their playoff run if all else fails. Jake Delhomme possibly starting another playoff game is not something we anticipated writing about this year.
