Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber II Headlines UFC 132 in Las Vegas

BLEACHERSREPORT

After the welterweight rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch fell through – courtesy of that pesky injury bug that keeps resurfacing in the sport of MMA – the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion has arranged for another mulligan to headline their UFC 132 event on July 2nd.

Exactly seven days after beating Eddie Wineland at UFC 128, Urijah Faber was rewarded with a shot at reigning bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. “The California Kid” handed Cruz his only professional blemish in March of 2007. The former WEC featherweight champ defended his title that evening by submitting his mortal enemy in the opening round.

Faber has posted a perfect 2-0 record since dropping down to the bantamweight division. Prior to his unanimous decision win over Wineland, he submitted Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 52.

Cruz was last seen beating Scott Jorgensen in the WEC’s curtain call this past December. That was the same night Anthony Pettis unleashed his “Showtime Kick,” so it’s understandable if you forgot about their 135-pound affair.

Cruz has been rehabbing his surgically repaired right hand since the victory.

It is believed Fitch was forced off the card with a shoulder injury. It appears the organization is content on finding Penn a new opponent, as opposed to shelving their rematch for a later date.

Carlos Condit’s name has been circling in the wind as a potential substitute.

UFC 132 takes place inside the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Here are the contestants expected to participate in the show:

Preliminary Bouts:

Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller

Main Bouts:

BJ Penn vs. TBD

George Sotiropoulos vs. Evan Dunham
Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben
Urijah Faber vs. Dominick Cruz (UFC Bantamweight Champion)
.
