Cafe searched over fears Fred West victim could be buried in building
Police say the search at The Clean Plate cafe in Southgate Street, Gloucester, is linked to the disappearance of Mary Bastholm, who was feared a victim of serial killer Fred West. Mary was 15 when she was reported missing on January 6, 1968, but her body was never found.
It comes after a production company was filming a documentary and found possible evidence to suggest a body could be buried in the building
Police have begun digging at a cafe in the search for the first suspected victim of evil Fred and Rose West.
Officers have “potentially important evidence” linked to Mary Bastholm, who vanished in Gloucester in 1968 aged 15.
One said: “This could be a significant development.”
For 53 years, Mary's family have lived with the anguish of not knowing where her remains are after suspecting she was killed by Fred and Rose West.
But there was last night signs of a breakthrough as police began a dig at a cafe where a TV crew filming a *documentary on the waitress claim they found evidence of a body.
Mary was 15 when she vanished from a Gloucester bus stop in 1968 while on her way to visit her boyfriend.
It has long been rumoured Fred knew the youngster as he often visited the Pop In cafe where she worked

“I think Mary was a sore point because there was so much compelling evidence that Fred and even Rose West were involved in her disappearance.
"I just hope the police do find *something that finally gives closure for the surviving members of Mary’s family.”
Gloucestershire Police Assistant Chief Constable Craig Holden said: “This could be a significant *development.
