Jimmy Savile's paedophile chauffeur has died in prison after previously fighting off coronavirus after catching it behind bars.
Ray Teret passed away aged 79 this morning after battling cancer, although the cause of death is not known.
It is reported Teret, who became known as sick Savile' 'shadow' was found dead in his cell by prison staff.
He was serving life at HMP Manchester for seven rapes and 11 indecent assaults on girls as young as 13.
The former Radio Caroline DJ revelled in nicknames like The Rat and "Ugly Ray" and was taken under Savile's wing in the 1960s.
Teret, 73 when jailed, groomed 11 victims aged 13 to 15 between 1963 and 1979, plying them with alcohol and luring them in with his wealth and fame.
He was mentored by sex fiend Savile at the start of his career and followed him around “like a shadow”, the court heard during his sentencing in 2014.
Judge Mr Justice Baker told him:
“It is clear you exploited your celebrity status to sexually abuse young girls.
“Those who were raped had little or no understanding what was happening and felt they could do little to prevent the abuse.”
He warned Teret: “You can have no complaint that most, if not all, of your remaining life may be served in prison.”
In 2014, it was revealed Teret came close to landing a job as a teaching assistant at a centre helping vulnerable teenagers.
He sent in an application to the now closed Pea**** Centre in Manchester to work as a teaching assistant.
The centre dealt with troubled youngsters and tried to help them back into main-stream education.
He applied for the job with the city’s Department of Education back in 2007.
